The Digital Team are responsible for the University’s external-facing web and digital presences and managing the University’s visual identity online.
Leading on web and digital media development, we provide a professional service to the University, working in partnership with our faculties, schools and institutes, alongside our Professional Services in order to support strategic aims and objectives.
Using a content-first strategy, we produce websites to meet user needs, ensuring users can easily find the information they are looking for. Through use of targeted copy, images, video and audio we develop clean and simple websites, accessible across all digital platforms and audiences.
The Internal Communications team delivers key information to University colleagues across our campuses, to ensure that staff are aware, engaged, and up-to-date with all the latest news and information.
Our channels of communication include the University’s Weekly Bulletin, the VCEG-led Team Brief, and popular Rumourbuster, and we also maintain a network of key contacts in every service and College to ensure consistency and uniformity of message. In addition to internal communications, we also hold responsibility for communications on behalf of University stakeholders, including the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor.
Our team is responsible for supporting all the communication and marketing activities in Cornwall – at the Penryn Campus and at the Knowledge Spa in Truro.
We work to ensure that Cornwall is fully represented in the University’s internal and external communications, liaising closely with the internal comms and student comms teams, the Press Office, the Campaigns team, the social media team and numerous other touchpoints across the University to do this.
We collate and write content for inclusion in the staff and student newsletters and produce ad hoc comms, so that our staff and students are aware of campus-specific news and events. We manage and support filming and photography projects to promote our courses, facilities, and student life and to fulfil media requests.
We also work closely with community partners and stakeholders to ensure they are kept up to date on the University’s activities in Cornwall and we produce a termly community newsletter.
Our team manages the University of Exeter, Cornwall website and the @UniExeCornwall social media channels. We also create marketing content and materials for student recruitment.
We liaise closely with our comms colleagues in the Students’ Union, Falmouth University and FX Plus to ensure campaigns and communications align when needed.
The team are responsible for communicating with students and managing the University’s social media accounts to reflect the richness and energy of university life.
Our student communications team deliver key messages and provide another channel for feedback. Our social media team work across the institution to deliver up-to-date information, deliver marketing for recruitment and give an insight into the life of the University.
Our channels of communication include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn, plus student email newsletters. We work closely with our students’ unions and colleagues across the University to ensure we provide the best service possible. We also help with content for the student recruitment team, our alumni and others.

The Press Office is the official link between the University, the media and key external stakeholders. We manage the University’s media profile and relationships with key external stakeholders.
We work with local, regional, national and international newspapers, magazines, online and broadcast media in the following ways:
- Writing and issuing press releases on news-worthy activity at the University. This includes working with academics to generate coverage for research.
- Publicising major developments at the University and coordinating media coverage for our events.
- Coordinating responses to media enquiries about the University and its research.
- Supervising media visits to the University, including filming by TV news crews and documentary companies and press photography.
- Pre-empting and managing potentially negative stories to ensure the University gets its messages across to the media in the most effective way.
We also engage with key external stakeholders, including Government, to build relationships and promote the University and its research to key decision makers.
We are responsible for media monitoring and produce a weekly report of the University’s media coverage, as well as managing and maintaining the news section of the University website. If you would like to receive our weekly media report by email, please contact us.
The Events team works to support the University’s Corporate Strategy, through the organisation and delivery of high profile events specialising in corporate, alumni and research focused events across Exeter and Cornwall.
We support:
- Vice-Chancellor-led events
- Royal/Ministerial visits
- Building openings – LSI, SERFS, Penryn Sports Centre
- College or Professional Services led high-level VIP visits to the University
- We also directly support alumni events, and events for Research Services and Innovation, Impact and Business directorates.
For Exeter campus events, we also work closely with Event Exeter, the University’s dedicated conference and event team. Similarly, for events in Cornwall, we work with FX Plus in Penryn who provide a conference and events service.
