The report ‘The Value of University Sport and Physical Activity’ produced by Sheffield Hallam University in 2020, contains a “call to action for the university sector to act now to increase engagement in sport and physical activity for all their students and staff, and make it an essential part of their university strategy”.

University of Exeter National Student Survey (NSS) results revealed the significant value our students place on their engagement in sport and our performance sport students are consistently above the University average for academic attainment with a high retention from undergraduate to postgraduate study. The British Active Students Survey (BASS) report produced by UKActive, evidences the levels of physical activity and the relationship between wider health and wellbeing, academic attainment, and employability skills.

The University Sport and Physical Activity Strategy builds on this evidence with the aim to deliver inclusive and accessible opportunities that will inspire students to participate in sport and physical activity, fulfil their academic/non-academic potential and enrich their University experience.
