Exeter Quay
Exeter Quay is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of campus and the city centre. I often like to browse its independent shops and walk along the river before visiting a café with friends (Mango and Vegbox are my favourites!)
The bowling alley (Tenpin) and climbing wall (Clip ‘n Climb) are also located here – good trips out with friends when you need a break from campus and uni work. All this is just a 10-minute walk from the cathedral!

Favourite things to do
Northernhay Gardens A walk in the park after a long study session is just the right medicine! Beautiful flowers and a nice view of the city adds to the charm.
Waterstones Café A bookshop study session is all you need if you can’t seem to focus. All these books will keep you motivated, and I’d recommend their millionaire’s shortbread.

Old Firehouse A fun night out at this pub won’t disappoint. Their live music is great!
Topsham A long hike to Topsham has been one of my favourite memories. It’s a cute town with boutiques worth looking at.
Sacred Grounds You can bring your vegan friend along to this brunch spot. A glitter costume in the vintage shop next door might catch your eye.
Climbing Hangar Bouldering is a great bonding experience with your friends. Sore muscles and dreams about climbing chalk are guaranteed.
Quay Side Go on a long walk with a beautiful view of the river.
Northcott Theatre Allow talented University students to entertain you and who knows, you might make some theatre friends.
Grow Coffee House Comes with a friendly service and comfortable seating. If you want to treat yourself during a study session, I’d recommend their smoothies.
Gandy Street Every once in a while, it’s nice to travel back in time. Gandy Street helps you do just that.
Exmouth You can’t go wrong with a trip to the beach. If you want to get away from all the city noise, Exmouth is only a short train ride away!

Exeter Phoenix

The Phoenix is a venue for all sorts of performances including comedy, music and theatre. There is a bar on site and tickets are generally well priced. It is tucked away behind the museum and is a wonderful hidden gem of entertainment.

If arts and culture are your thing, you will love the Exeter Phoenix – it hosts regular events such as indie music sets, DJ sets and stand-up comedy. Exeter Phoenix also has its own cinema Studio 74 which shows new blockbusters and indie gems. Students can get discounted movie tickets for Studio 74. The Phoenix is unique as there are not many places where you can see performing arts, film, music and visual art all under one roof.

Board, Exeter
Board is the best place to go to play board games with your friends, family, significant others or alone. For a small individual charge, you can have access to a full range of games for up to three hours!
The food is well worth the price and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are available.
If you’re looking for a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere Board is the place to go!
